I think they have a hidden agenda, as usual, and vigilance
is indicated, as always. From the Barron's story...

Hambrecht & Quist analyst Gus Richard, who classified himself as a bear on Applied about six months ago, says he has recently done an about-face and is "growing really excited" about the stock.

At least Gus Richard is not hiding his past bearishness.
Six months ago was August '97. I wish I had been bearish
then and had sold my AMAT, thus preserving the gains. ;)
