Ruth also shows the danger of single issue politics.
She did not retire, roughly 6 years ago even with cancer and other ailments. She said she did not want to retire in the tenure of Barack Obama, she would wait for Hillary Clinton.

We all know how that worked out.l

The point is, she was so determined to have her replacement made by a woman, because she championed women's issues, that she shunned the potential of a replacement that was concerned with black issues (I have no idea that a Obama replacement would be concerned mostly with black issues). Still, there was no rational reason for not to retire in 2014 or before. It's just another example of what's wrong with the whole geriatric reasoning of the present Democratic power structure.
