This is true. We have a lot of ag land, and a lot of forest land, half of which is owned by the feds. They could be privatized for homes, if we choose to ignore the fire issue, but they're a long way from where the jobs are. Going up is a partial solution. San Francisco could build houses where Golden Gate Park currently lives, and in its watershed.
