There are places you are not allowed to go without a hard hat on. There are things you are not allowed to do without safety glasses on. I worked in a foundry where if somebody welded without a helmet, they would have been fired immediately. There is NOTHING POLITICAL about the wearing of masks during a pandemic. When people rail against having to wear them for political reasons, I sense neither patriotism nor principle. I sense pride. And ignorance of the fact that freedom and responsibility are paired, just like faith and works and justice and mercy are paired. As faith without works is dead, so freedom without responsibility is dead.

Years ago, I worked as an ironworker and later for a coal mine. Hard hats and hard toe shoes were required and everyone wore them.
