Former Bush official shreds Trump in endorsement of Joe Biden for president

Tom Ridge, who was a cabinet secretary under former Republican president George W. Bush, endorsed the Democratic nominee on Sunday.
“I will cast my vote for Joe Biden on Nov. 3. It will be my first vote for a Democratic candidate for president of the United States,” Ridge, a former governor of Pennsylvania, wrote in an op-ed in the Philadelphia Inquirer. "But it is not the first time I have said ‘no’ to Donald Trump. I urge my fellow Pennsylvanians to join me.
“ lacks the empathy, integrity, intellect and maturity to lead,” Ridge continued. “He sows division along political, racial and religious lines. And he routinely dismisses the opinions of experts who know far more about the subject at hand than he does.”
Ridge was among more than 100 Republicans who voiced opposition to Trump in 2016, though he did not endorse then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
“Joe Biden has the experience and empathy necessary to help us navigate not only the pandemic, but also other issues that have fractured our nation, including social injustice, income inequality and immigration reform,” Ridge wrote.
A small army of Republicans, from former Ohio Gov. John Kasich to short-lived Trump communications director Anthony Scaramucci, has come out in support of Biden.
Over the summer, officials who worked for the George W. Bush administration launched a political action committee to support Biden called “43 Alumni for Biden,” according to CNN.
