I have an on-demand water heater that uses Natural Gas. CA does not allow these w/ new residential construction (in some major cities). Also, no worries in an earthquake other than losing the gas line. That much water in a tank creates a hazard during an earth quake.

All technologies s/d be on the table IMO.
