Sony says Playstation shipments hit 28.2 million

TOKYO, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Sony Corp <6758.T> said on Thursday that total worldwide shipments of its 32-bit PlayStation game machine reached 28.2 million units at the end of 1997.

Sony also said profits from PlayStation machines accounted for 25 percent of the company's group operating profits in the October-December period of last year.
A senior Sony official said it expected group operating profits in the January-March period to be nearly zero.
