I have been a bear on STMD since Micropolis pulled the plug. My conclusion was based on many considerations but the most compelling is that we are in one of those disk drive market downturns that have historically haunted this sector. It is a deep enough one that it will pick off some of the weaker companies. STMD is one of these as is JTS and AMC. Akashic was as well and I never understood the sense of an Akashic/STMD merger. Out of all the sectors the media guys are way overbuilt, even more so then the drive guys. Komag has 6 idle lines at their plant in Penang for example (this on top of their announced closings in Milpitas).
