Gary,

How are things in San Jose. Is Cisco still hiring or did you take the last PR job. Let's see......

<The only area Ascend/CSCC has done well against CSCO/STRM is in RBOC's and ISP's and this is more because of mistakes STRM made prior to the acquistion than it is anything CSCC did. This has been corrected/forgotten and you will see this in spades this year!>

Oh, really! Well according to AT&T Chairman and CEO C. Michael Armstrong in the article published in Network World Fusion, 1/27/98 titled "Armstrong decrees a new network for AT&T" I read a very interesting section that said 'In addition, the carrier is expected to add new multiservice ATM switches - primarily from Ascend Communications Corp., according to analysts - at up to 200 points in the network to provide additional user-to-network interfaces for frame relay, ATM and IP services.'

Now this doesn't preclude Cisco from also supplying additional products but there was no mention of this being the case within this article. It is kind of funny that Cisco feels the need to release the US West contract and have Chambers run his mouth immediately after AT&T made there announcements. Personally, I will take the largest long distance carrier in the world over one RBOC.

Don't get me wrong, I like Cisco too! But I feel the only way Cisco is going to become #1 in the remote access business this year is by acquiring their competition, not from internal development.

Cheers,

Steve
