France: Doctors Without Borders says around half of the migrants in Paris may be coronavirus positive

OCT 9, 2020 11:00 AM BY CHRISTINE DOUGLASS-WILLIAMS

Illegal migrants have continued to swarm into the EU during the coronavirus lockdown. Now in France, “more than one in two homeless people, mostly migrants, have been infected with Covid-19 in Île-de-France, according to the first study of its kind, published on Tuesday, October 6 by the NGO Doctors Without Borders (Médecins sans frontières, MSF), which is concerned about this ‘particularly high prevalence.”

This is France amid the coronavirus crisis and the news that half of the migrants on Paris streets may be coronavirus positive:

Between mid-2010 and mid-2016, France received more than half a million Muslim migrants”In 2019, France showed signs of losing control over its Muslim migrants when “illegal immigrants shut down one terminal of France’s Charles de Gaulle Airport… in a massive protest” of between 400-500 migrants. One person was heard shouting “France does not belong to the French! Everyone has a right to be here!”Muslim migration is so out of control in France that last month, tensions between France and the UK were building rapidly after the French were caught red-handed escorting illegal migrant boats from France across the English Channel into the UK. France even demanded $39,000,000 from the UK to take their own illegal migrants back.Meanwhile, in Italy in September, “migrants housed in a Sicilian hotel set fires in the accommodation to protest against anti-coronavirus measures.”

Also last month in Greece, five Muslim migrants were arrested for an arson attack that destroyed Europe’s largest migrant camp, because they, too, were upset over lockdown measures.

“Île-de-France: more than one in two homeless people infected with Covid-19,” translated from “Île-de-France: plus d’une personne en grande précarité sur deux infectée au Covid-19,” Le Figaro, October 6, 2020:

More than one in two homeless people, mostly migrants, have been infected with Covid-19 in Île-de-France, according to the first study of its kind, published on Tuesday, October 6 by the NGO Doctors Without Borders (Médecins sans frontières, MSF), which is concerned about this “particularly high prevalence”.

With a 55% positivity rate in the accommodation centers, food distributions or workers’ homes where MSF has conducted tests, this is a “particularly high prevalence, especially in the homes and accommodation centers,” the report emphasizes. The survey, described as the very first in France and in Europe to focus exclusively on the level of exposure to the virus among the most vulnerable, mainly concerns foreigners, who represent 90% of the sample of 818 people tested by the NGO.

A positivity rate of 12% in Paris

“The results show an enormous prevalence. The main reason is the promiscuity and the accommodation conditions which have generated clusters”, for example in the gymnasiums, where these people were sheltered at the beginning of generalized confinement, says Corinne Torre, head of the France mission at MSF.

Conducted between June 23 and July 2 with Epicenter, the epidemiology center hosted by MSF, the study revealed strong disparities depending on the types of sites at which people were tested: thus, in the 10 centers of accommodation where it operates, the positivity rate reached 50.5%, compared to 27.8% at food distribution sites and 88.7% in the two migrant worker homes.

In France, the positivity rate of the general population oscillates rather between 5 and 10%. According to Public Health France, it was 8% at the end of last week, and around 12% in Paris, where the main sites covered by MSF are located.
