I'm no expert on Paradyne's offering, having read only the US West announcement, and quickly perused their web site, and I hope anyone more knowledgable will correct me if necessary. But it sounded to me like Paradyne's MVL solution doesn't require the extra jack that Amati (and other?) ADSL modems require to be wired. If I'm the phone company, I see that as a big win, even if the service is somewhat slower. Big simplifier for me and for the customer.
It caught my attention because I'm really disappointed in the slow rollout of ADSL, or for that matter any other high speed copper solution. That was supposed to be the big plus, right? If you live in a relatively modern place, it works with your existing phone lines, so you don't have to wait for years for the infrastructure to be modified, ala ISDN. |
