R&D expense already increased 1 million over third quarter spending !

I have been comparing the third quarter and fourth quarter reports.
The fourth quarter had additional revenue, 10% higher margins, and less capital expenses. So why only a .01 increase in EPS. Because R&D expense increased almost 1 million (about .03 per share).

So we sacrifice .03 EPS now for greater returns in the future.

Another 1 million increase in under the heading "Interest and other expenses". Does anybody have any idea why this number should increase so drastically ?
