Three biotech areas of interest to me are:

1) Development of antibiotics to resistant bacteria. MCDE is a pure play in this and Cubist also figures. MCDE went public at about $20 and is now at $9/share. Recent article on biotechs cites MCDE's excellent management and short clinical trial periods usually associaed with antibiotics. This area has been neglected last few decades and a massive problem is on it's way if these drugs aren't developed soon.

2) companies with packed piplelines aimed at illness expensive to treat (ie diabetes). Ligand is my pick here...any comments?

3) companies using/developing genetic approaches by emperical and, more importantly, rational dessign. I like Millenium (MLNM) here for one. They also have large deal with Monsanto to apply their expertise to plants.
