I like the article with exception to Paul Fox's theory on the large PC vendors out-sourcing more of the manufacturing to the Solectrons of the world.

The only PC manufacturing companies that will survive and profit in the low to med. end market will be the ones who do not use the Solectrons of the world and have their own in-house world class manufacturing capabilties.

Simply put you cannot stay competitive in this type of market and out-source your product. Compaq's great success in this arena is due to an extreamly efficient manufacturing process that blows away anything Solectron could even dream of.
