"consumers nationwide still have the choice to use its rivals’ online offerings"... which are also fully dependent on and controlled by their uses of Google technology ?

"Tech" has so far and so badly overplayed their hand... it will be great fun to watch the next few years. It isn't just "tech" (as that is now conceived)... where innovation is being hobbled by anti-competitive behavior...

Understanding how that behavior works to suppress innovation... is useful... as you consider the likely impacts of that suppression being removed. AT&T being broken up generated lots of interesting "corporate" change in the new phone companies in the short term. It had much greater impact on consumers with big price reductions in phone bills...

But, without that original set of basic changes imposed...today we'd have no cell phones... no internet... ?

We're at a similar point, today... perhaps... with the anti-competitive behaviors limiting innovation... in order to preserve the benefits for those monopolies that are now milking their sacred cows... which they are grazing in the public commons.

Probably past time to start thinking about the implications of changes coming ?
