Letmebe Frank,
Judging from past quarterly results it appears highly likely that IMAXF will come in line with estimates if not a penny or two above. I think I saw somewhere that IMAX hadn't missed an estimate going back five or six quarters, though they hadn't blown out numbers either. I would venture to guess that the consistency in earnings is probably due to the substantial backlog. This gives the company excellent visibility looking out a year or so enabling the company to more effectively guide the analysts.

In terms of competitors, the 10K acknowledges that there are companies that do compete directly with IMAX and that there is always the threat of a larger company entering the industry. However, in an August 24, 1997 Toronto Star article TD Securities analysts noted that one of Imax's strengths was that it had "few competitors" and "high brand recognition". Imax's brand name recognition in the 15-70 format film industry and its extensive film library are going to create significant barriers to entry into the industry. Indeed, Imax has already inked significant deals with many of the top theater chains in North America with many more to likely to fall in line over the next couple of years.
