In case of a fire, the vault has a security system that will pump the air out from the room, killing anyone inside but saving the music.

Back when the Dead were alive (physically, that is) and touring, it was common knowledge that if the Dead ever played real music the security system would pump all the smoke out of the room, killing anyone inside but preserving the bootlegs.
