This is getting nutty. LU is claiming to violate all kinds of technical barriers and they've done so without producing any demonstrations in the technical journals. 80 channels at 5 Gb/s with 600 km??? It seems highly unlikely unless they can also walk on water. Bell Labs -- smell labs. Two months ago they didn't know up from down in this business and now they have the hottest WDM system on Earth? It certainly smells fishy to me. I think it's all smoke and mirrors. I agree with Craig's skepticism. I do not think that LU can deploy this system any time this year. I believe it to be a PR campaign to try to sway AT&T's potential decision to use CIEN.
