Tom, interesting note: I'm amazed how cheap the Marlboro's are. In Switzerland a 20-packet cost about CHF 4.-- (let me verify later, as I'm a non-smoker)!!

The state finances of Indonesia I guess would rather profit from higher oil prices. They also have the benefit that these sales are effected in USD. The effect on the population of eliminating subsidies on petro products, what will it be? Seen from here, the local prices in USD are ridiculously cheap. However I don't know how they are currententy perceived in Indonesia itself. If they are perceived as generally cheap, the people may swallow these price rises more easily.

BTW, some days ago we heard that Malaysia and India still have price controls in effect for many consumables. Do you know if such price controls (maximum prices) are in place in Indo also?
