Laser Discs only cost US$2 each as well

Indonesia is being forced by the IMF to deregulate (ie remove price controls) the markets for many goods including flour, sugar and soy beans. These were previously run by monopolies owned by various friends of Suharto. The effect of removing the price controls has led prices to increase by 30% in January alone. Fruit, spices and fats and oils have been the biggest risers.

The prices for many US$ goods haven't really increased yet due to a variety of factors (old inventory, waiting for currency to stabilize etc)
