Judy H.: thanks for info. Did not know of this new stock buying. Closing European plants is part of the business strategy of centralizing battery manufacturing IMO. Problem is that gov'ts don't easily or cheaply let owners do this I believe. Looks like EX strategy is being implemented nonetheless.
I'm not following lead prices, so I don't know if the increases that occurred in '97 and which presumably caused large cost increases for Europe ops (which did not have lead pricing hedged), are still increasing. Apparently some people think '98 will be a good year for EX -- or at least it's a good time to by EX stock according to your reports. Thanks again for the info. Paul Senior
ps: Seems like EX lost one large customer - PEP Boys. When I stopped in to buy, counterman said they don't carry EX standard line anymore, only the much more expensive NASCAR line. Oh well, I'm now very happy with my new 80 month DieHard -g-.
