I agree with you that this is a good move on their part. If nothing else, with all the negative press predicting their demise, they are saying we are going to grow. It seems to me that the management strongly believe that they are going to do just fine. This is supported by the following:

1. Bought 33M shares at an average price of 13.5.

2. Insiders have been accumulating the stock since March 96, as I indicated in a previous post, they accumulated more than 400,000 shares thru June 96. In the latest insiders report, during July 96: 3 insiders exercised options for 44,000 shares and one of them sold 9,900 share (out of 20,000 shares aquired by exercise of option). More accumulation!!!!

3. 300M investment for new buildings in San Jose

All the above tells me that they are very positive. I hope they are not wasting all this money.
