Because you know, a death rate of 0.5% is nothing to be scared of, right? It only means a million Americans will die, but that's better than 300M ...

Unfortunately that's the nature of this beast. You can shut things down but as soon as you re-open... Wham! Look at Europe. Instead of hiding from it we need to deal with it. The death rate for those under fifty is in the noise. Would this flu even be an issue if the mortality for everyone was that of the under fifty crowd? Why ruin their lives to save the Boomers? It's obvious what the Boomers need to do to not get infected so let's move on. I'm 59 BTW and have no issues socializing smartly.
