<From the graph it is clear that a lot of deaths were also compromised individuals with other health problems therefore the spike in lost life> You are missing other factors.. All it might be that it spread very rapidly in dense areas in the Northeast that were hit early. When that kind of intense spread occurs in smaller communities, the compromised individuals in those communities will also face hospitalization or death. The other reason of the spike could be that intially hospitals did not understand the right treatment, and had 4 times the number of deaths. So today's 600/day is actually equivalent to 2400/day in the initial stages. So the spike might not look as prominent if they had the right treatment from the start. -Arun
