>>What about the price Iomega charges to replace out of warranty drives? What about the price Iomega charges to recover data on a bad zip disk? I think you picked the only good post from the links mentioned in the article.<<

Milt -

I've seen those newsgroups, and this is not the only positive mention. Of course, people who are completely satisfied have no reason to even try to find these newsgroups in the first place.

As has already been pointed out, once the drive is out of warranty Iomega is under no obligation at all. To their credit, they will try to help the user out anyway, although of course there is a cost.

As for recovering data, how much does Western Digital, Quantum, or Seagate charge for recovering data lost on a hard drive? Do they even offer the service?

Iomega will replace defective Zip disks for free at any time, as long as the disk hasn't been abused. That's all they are obligated or should be expected to do.

One last point. These newsgroups have been known to readers of this thread for more than a year. You're not telling us anything we don't know. SyQuest doesn't have their own newsgroup, because their sales don't warrant it. But if you like, I could find you the links for the subgroups under PC and Mac Hardware where you will find messages from people who are just as dissatisfied with their SyQuest drives.
