Syborg,
I never said Sybase was not getting any new customers as you mentioned in your post. What I said is that customers are reluctant to make a long term financial commitment with a company that is on the downward slippery slope - SYBS fits this description based upon recent, and for that matter long term financial performance. This does not mean that they will not get new customers, its just going to be real hard for them, and they may have to make large price concessions to win them.
Let me now address my reason why the market feels that Oracle has superior products. While I don't have IDC or Gartner numbers at hand, I believe Revenue, absolute and growth, are a good indicators. Most recent QTR for ORCL was $1.6B, 23% growth from prior year. SYBS was $0.2B, a decline of 17% from prior year. My calculations show SYBS's revenue at roughly 14% of ORCL. What is one to conclude with these figures -- that the marketplace prefers SYBS? Your logic confuses me.
As I said in a previous post, you are entitled to your opinion, and I respect that even though I don't understand your logic. However, I would appreciate your cleaning up the tone of your responses, as others have suggested to you. We are here to get ideas and information, and hopefully make some money. I'm not here for your insults. |
