"Don't learn a language, acquire it." The idea is taken from how kids learn their first language. They don't do it by studying its grammar rules, spelling rules, syntax and so on first, they acquire it by listening to the way people speak it. That's why adjective rule order, for example, ends up being intuitive.

Learning the rules comes later.
