Honestly, I just don't think it would be that complicated to develop a system that does this from PCs and cell phones, start-to-finish. These transactions are not nearly so complex as financial and other systems I've worked on.

There is no reason the federal vote counting operation can't be handled in the coming four years. If you need a recount, fine: "You can pick it up on that printer in five minutes. These are the ballots people actually entered and signed off on. There is no dispute."

If localities want to run their own elections fine. But the federal government needs to be running federal elections. And nothing should happen without representation of all interests.

Any person can easily trace their own vote to its appearance on every report from the convenience of their laptop or cell phone.

This isn't rocket science.
