Cheeky,

It is sad that Nintendo still has no plan to release a 64CD instead of using cartridge and disk. As far as copy-protection is concern, there is no fool-proof. It just make the game "appear" to be harder to clone. There is a device called something like "Doctor64" which let you copy N64 cartridges. Similar devices also availible for SNES. There is copy protection for PSX CD design but hacker make "mod chip" (a hardware modification to PSX console) to get around the copy protection easily. I guess PSX success has told us that CD is a better design. The publishers love it because higher margin, the designers have no complain for extra storage space and the customer is happy because they have more levels and excellent sounds effect. Riven/PSX requires 5 CDs and I wonder how many cartridges will it convert to... There is no doubt that N64's processing power is at least 1 generation advanced than the R3000A based PSX but its storage solution is still in stone-age.
