RE: Vapor! as an external add-on

>>They also mention that their strategy is the same as for Zip.<<

This is because this strategy is pretty much forced on them. There are no OEM's. They all rejected no.hand, and now they rejected Vapor!

I surmised the last week or two that Iomega could sell Vapor! as an external peripheral first, to try and demonstrate a demand for it to OEM's. But I included a concern that Vapor! will confuse the marketplace, and eat into Zip sales. This view has not changed. If Vapor! ships with a Parallel or SCSI port, you could theoretically use it instead of a Zip on your desktop computer.

Vapor! will undoubtedly include a version that has a PC card interface for use with portable devices. But where will the drive reside? Will they include 2 strips of sticky-sided velcro-- one to apply to the camera, and the other to the Vapor! external drive? Or will it come with a belt-loop holster instead? This isn't a real concern, just a question.

I would really try and limit the enthusiasm expended on Vapor!, and instead focus on the bread-and-butter Zips. They will make or break iomega.
