11/6/2020 Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
No “Blue Wave” but rather a “Blue Ripple.” However, I’ll definitely take it over the 2016 rip current. As for the impact of the election results on biotechs, the conventional wisdom is that a likely divided government reduces the threat of drug price controls. So biotech bulls should be happy.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 14.70% YTD (vs. up 9.06% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 17.24% YTD (vs. up 10.30% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 28.28% YTD (vs. up 20.43% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 31.86% YTD (vs. up 20.96% YTD a week ago).
(We’ll see Monday whether this afternoon’s ADCOM thumbs down on BIIB’s aducanumab has a negative effect on the entire biotech sector.)
JBOG’s portfolio had a good week, holding on to a big Contest lead with a 220.94% YTD gain. FILO’s portfolio, up 141.80% YTD and MASTER’s portfolio, up 92.27% YTD, continued in second and third place.
At Friday's close, 26 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 19 beating the NBI and 13 beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 23.01% with the median still in the red with a YTD loss of -4.20%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing pot-election (sic) week biotechies.
Don’t forget to wear your mask and social distance.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
