Air Canada (AC-T) After weeks of speculation, the federal government confirmed yesterday that a financial lifeline is in the works for Canada’s airlines that are being walloped by the pandemic and border restrictions. But there will be strings attached: “Before we spend one penny of taxpayer money on airlines, we will ensure Canadians get their refunds,” Transport Minister Marc Garneau said in a statement that indicated negotiations with the airlines could begin this week. In a short release, WestJet said it’s awaiting greater clarity on the potential support package. And this morning, Air Canada said it’s deferring the suspension of 95 additional routes that had been identified by its team. That’s while reporting an 86 per cent plunge in third-quarter revenue and forecasting up to $1.3 billion in cash burn this quarter. BNN.ca
