Tom. I attended the Uniphase presentation at the Montgomery conference. I try to keep a level head about new technology, but for me, it was a mind-blower.

Basically, what Uniphase has accomplished is a system of multplexing fibreoptic transmission that increases bandwidth multifold, while using an amplification technique that eliminates the need for electronic repeaters which slow the signal and add significantly to the cost. The result is a multifold increase in bandwidth with much faster speeds, and a dramatic decrease in cost.

Montgomery's numbers are .40 '95A, .65 '96E, 1.05 '97E. The company has no debt.

I bought the stock Wednesday based on the buzz, and more Thursday after seeing the presentation.
