So I think my answer in future to those folk will be Canada is not a democracy either by your definition :)

I will add that the greatest fear in our Quebec Sovereignty referendum was the idea that 50% Plus 1 vote in a population of MANY millions of people would be decisive.. the trouble with Pure democracy .. Are there any pure democracies ? I guess partly the trouble with English being such an imprecise language... I ask are there any because all counties with one person one vote call themselves a democracy...

In fact we are both in countries that are far more democratic than the Greek ideal :)
