Your defence of a Republic sounds very good in theory, but in practice it has not worked out here. The Republican Party has by in large become the Fortune 500. In NYS, of course, the Republicans are pragmatic and do care for the most part about the people. But the National Republican Party is primarily interested in cutting social programs and essential services for the people and using that money for tax cuts and stronger defense. So, Republic or representative Democracy does not work; they end up doing what they want and serving their masters, the banksters and CEOs of the Fortune 500.
