That's why the best way to reform both parties is to remove their chief form of enforcement that requires members to adhere to the leaders. Eliminate the party primary for a non-party primary. This will allow candidates to balance the influence of their party influencers and their electorates needs. If a candidate could just start adopting some positions and the party couldn't mount a legally enforced challenge to their re-election, then they would be more likely to stand up for themselves.
