You are being simplistic and want me to be.

Dem and pub parties used to have both liberals and conservatives, as you should know!

But today the most conservative dem is more liberal than the most liberal pub.

And the 1964 vote was more a matter of liberal versus conservative, than dem versus pub.

So to use a political identity to define voting, would be wrong, when using liberal versus conservative tells the story more accurately.

It is important to be accurate!

As H. L. Mencken said:" for every complex problem there is a simple answer and it is usually wrong!

" the 23 dems who did not vote to end the filibuster" were Dems. It's OK to say that Robert Byrd was in the Klan, before he wasn't. I notice labels are fungible with you. Sometimes it's D's and R's, sometimes liberals and conservatives. I don't suppose that you'll say that the R's who voted for it were progressives..Am I wrong?

"that vote has to be seen as progressive versus conservative. "
