I am all for influencers influencing. The freedom of speech is the best part of the constitution.

But if you are referring to the 2nd point on my post re separation of state and federal parties, that has nothing to do with influencers. It is about (a) making sure that state elections are mainly concerned with state issues, and (b) funds given to one will not find its way into the other.

That is what I meant by firewalls.

BTW, such an scheme has two interesting side effects which you have called for - (1) it gets rid of party registration and primaries for the voters. As I said, it is common in Canada to vote conservative at one level and liberal at another. And you can't really do this if you have to register as one or another and participate only in one of the primaries. (2) It ensures that the state legislature actually does the job they are hired to do - in other words states get greater autonomy from federal politics.
