The day's most entertaining demonstration had to be that of WavePhore (WAVO), whose WaveTop is a service broadcasting 140MB of rich content every day over PBS's close-captioning wavelength. If you have a TV tuner installed in your PC, you can go to the WaveTop site and see colorful, entertaining content in a variety of categories, and it all downloads very quickly. Installing software from the Web becomes almost instantaneous, and you can load and play a game within seconds. The client software and the service are free; they're advertising-supported. The client will be built into Windows 98.--Don Willmott

With 80 percent of the Internet's content in English, language translation is definitely a growth market. Lernout & Hauspie (LHSPF) showed Internet Translation, which lets you search the Web in your native language and receive site summaries in your language, no matter what language the site uses. You can even see versions of the same Web page in two languages, side by side. Pricing for the service, which is due to start in June, hasn't been determined.
