Giuliani denies asking for $20,000 a day to handle Trump campaign legal challenges

Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has denied a report that he asked the campaign for $20,000 per day to handle legal work contesting the result of the election.

The New York Times reports that multiple people with knowledge of the situation said that Mr Giuliani made the request.

However, when contacted, the former Mayor of New York City denied the allegation saying that he never asked for $20,000.

“The arrangement is, we’ll work it out at the end,” he told the Times over the phone.

The Independent reached out to the Trump campaign for comment but is yet to hear back.

Allies of the president have reportedly raised concerns that Mr Giuliani is pursuing legal challenges to profit off the campaign.

A day rate of $20,000 would make him the most expensive lawyer anywhere, coming in higher than the best lawyers in Washington and New York.

He is said to have convinced the president of the veracity of some of the conspiracy theories about voting machines and other electoral irregularities.

Mr Giuliani has reportedly also told Mr Trump that his other advisers haven’t been telling him the truth about the possibility of overturning results via the courts.

Since being asked to take over management of the legal efforts to challenge election results in battleground states, Mr Giuliani has overseen several failed court cases and the exit of other lawyers.

Despite Joe Biden being named as the winner of the election ten days
ago, Mr Trump has resisted conceding.

Instead, he is spouting wild theories of widespread electoral fraud that have no basis in fact, as those close to him continue to say that he will eventually be declared as the winner.
