Paul said MSFT doesn't provide incentive to innovate on their systems. I say if that were true developers would stop innovating on their systems and a competing system with growing apps would take over. Again, developers are not stupid and are perfectly capable of recognizing their best opportunities.
MSFT is not a fat, lazy, non-productive company dominating a market by blocking others from delivering value. It is an aggressive, productive company dominating markets by delivering better value than others.
Maybe the market would be more competitive if MSFT made a big mistake, like IBM did, like Lotus did, like NOVL did, like BORL did, like AAPL did, like COSFF did, but thus far they have not, so it's no surprise they are prospering. The DOJ is out of place trying step in and say "you must stop producing for the good of others". If our government subsubizes incompetence in business we will get more incompetence in business.
(And I'm not using incompetance here as a slap. I'm sure many of those managers are a lot smarter than me, but the fact remains that they all either made major miscalculations of market direction or failed to execute in timely fashion.) |
