11/27/2020 Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
Thanksgiving week provided investors with a stock market that deserved a big “Thank You.” Should credit be given to President-elect Biden or President Trump? Should I care?
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 19.33% YTD (vs. up 14.26% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 21.26% YTD (vs. up 17.46% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 40.79% YTD (vs. up 34.84% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 35.31% YTD (vs. up 31.42% YTD a week ago).
JBOG’s portfolio continued to top the Contest scoreboard with a large lead, finishing the week with a dazzling 325.16% YTD gain. Both second place FILO’s portfolio, up 195.29% YTD and third place MASTER’s portfolio, up 142.74% YTD have also had a “TRILing” year.
At Friday's close, 31 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 20 still beating the NBI and a proud10 still beating the sizzling SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 33.67% with the median moving back in the green with a YTD gain of 1.21%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: Reverse merger with SBPH becoming FSTX. Just a single portfolio held SBPH, with the share exchange being .1125 FSTX for each SBPH share following a pre-merger 1:4 reverse split of SBPH shares. I should note that I found the reverse merger provisions confusing and am not sure I made the changes correctly. So if anyone held SBPH in real life, please let me know how many SBPH shares you held pre-merger and how many FSTX shares you have post-merger.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)

For those who haven’t yet read my earlier post, after 15 years I’ve decided to retire as Contest scorekeeper. If you’d like to take over the 2021 Contest, please let me know and I’ll be glad to help with the setup. If you can’t commit to weekly updates but are able to post less frequent updates I imagine that would be acceptable to Contest participants.

Enjoy a safe and relaxing post-Thanksgiving weekend biotechies.
Don’t forget to wear your mask and social distance.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
