Keep your hope up, the mutations we've seen so far all have the same entry mechanism, which is the "spike" that gives the corona virus its name. So the mRNA vaccines made by Modern and Pfizer target the spike, which means so far they are universal vaccine. That's why mRNA vaccines are such a massive medical break through. The issue with the flu is that we are using dead virus strains to target each strain of the flu, which is the vaccine we get every year. So if the vaccine you get has the wrong strains, then you are not protected. The mRNA vaccines protect you against all known strains of corona virus to date. Just pray for one very specific thing....that the corona virus doesn't mutate to lose its spike and develops another way to invade the cells besides the spike. Then the mRNA vaccines will fail. But I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Here is the highest probability guess. We will be back to normal by fall of next year. If we are still wearing masks and social distancing, then it will either be because people have PTSD or because politicians have become totalitarian and have passed laws to not allow us to live normally. But my next fall, if you have taken the vaccine, then you have will have zero logical reason to behave in any way other than normally, as you did before COVID.
