Graham came up with a similar concept after the 1929 crash, although most of the items in this basket backing the currency would not be too pleasant to eat ;) ... It seems he wrote about it in World Commodities and World Currency (1944) and Storage and Stability (1937) as mentioned by Irving Kahn in some old interviews.
