Scrapps, since I don't see any replies to your question as yet, and if you are still trying to puzzle this through, here are some simple suggestions. While I didn't get my internal Sportster the oem route, I did install mine. I used their installation CD, and that had RapidComm on it. It installed a version of RapidComm, but I have yet to ever use it. (Mine auto installed in Windows/Program Files. Fwiw.)
But for Internet connection in Win95, I think you end up using the wizard in the "Dial Up Networking" folder, called "Make New Connection". During that process they will ask you to identify which modem you have, if they haven't already done that for you. That I think is all you will need, for internet access. As far as fax send/receive there should be some other piece of software, unless MS Exchange has that built in. (I don't use Exchange, so forgive my complete ignorance about that one.)
My Gateway created a directory called DOSDRV that had all of the OEM disk images in there. I don't know if Dell does the same thing or not, but you might find a similar directory on your C: drive.
So what kind of machine did you get? Is it a hummer? Got to be faster than my 133 P5. If we get some more recovery here, I might reward myself with an upgrade in technology.
