We are currently prepared for the coconut to do a gap-year after high school graduation, to do something useful, whether by way of internship or by path of year in China China China university, to watch & see what happens where when around our troubled planet. We have no preference, and entirely up to the coconut. She just knows she best leave little HK for wider horizon, and we agree but okay w/ her staying here as well. Whatever she wishes to try to do. The baby wants to fly in 18 months.
Whoa ... where did the time GO!
In China China China universities she would assuredly be in the special dispensation / preferred category for all sorts of reasons (ethnic minority, overseas diaspora, HK-born, etc etc) even as she certainly qualifies based on absolute merit measures (test scores, GPA, extra curricula, social impact work, recommendations, etc etc).
The elite schools in China has small pockets of space for applicants treated w/ dispensation, but even within such pockets, acceptance is test score based. For the kids who are just good some some extra curricula and so so at test scores, there are other schools more suitable, because given the numbers involved, there would always be kids with the test scores AND the extra curricula points to fill the space. Finding talents w/ the test scores to fill classrooms is not an issue so far.
The networking opportunity should be good, and at any of the elite schools full tuition would be less than US$ 5,000 per year, by which her savings not drawn down should enable her to do whatever upon graduation especially if she learns to roll options. |
