Hi Christine, I don't think that I am being idealistic about building efficient solar houses, but realistic. I know enough physics to know they will work before I build them. It only takes time, money and engineering to do it.

No one can know exactly what would happen if we unleashed all of the nuclear weapons on earth, but we know what happened with volcanoes and the massive oil fires in Kuwait. Not much overall. If the exchange was between Russia and the U.S., for example, the people in China and India would barely know what happened. Remember that we once did above ground nuclear testing. Would you have known when they happened if they weren't reported. This Earth is huge and is quite forgiving of the damage that we do to it. We fortunately don't have the ability to extinguish life on Earth with bombs. I am more worried about the builup of CO2.

Compare all of the power that we unleash with all of our automobiles, factories, power plants, etc. every day around the clock to an explosion that lasts a few seconds and that explosion pales by comparison in total energy. Maybe 1 square mile is heavily damaged out of millions. The remaining energy is radiated into space.

Radioactivity? Remember that the animals that are now inhabiting the highly radioactive area around Chernobyl? They don't seem to care that it is radioactive, they're just glad that there are no humans around to bother them. Those dumb animals are just ignoring the anti-nuclear propaganda.

There is no conflict in my thinking. Nuclear power is the safest, cleanest energy, and the best for the environment. The best part is that we have all of that nuclear fuel available from the bombs that we are dismantling. We should be building nuclear plants to use it to produce energy for electric cars.
