Do you think republicans ever wanted balanced budgets? If so, they spent decades proving they don't have to actually do it. All they have to do is talk about it and republican voters fall for it.

I'd strongly suggest there is no such thing as a fiscal conservative and there never has been. Everyone wants free stuff. Republicans want free stuff and free money (tax cuts) so they're the biggest supporters of massive government debt.

Besides, all of their presidents going back to Lincoln gave us recessions and all of their tax cutting presidents gave us record deficits after they promised to balance the budget.

(with a record this dismal, imagine how much propaganda they need to convince their voters they're pro-business and fiscally conservative)
