most PH.D.'s that I know do not like being called "doctor"
My wife has the same degree as "Dr Jill". It is on her business cards and I assume she puts it on course syllabus, but would be shocked if she expected students to use it. I have never heard her use it or be called "Dr" except in joking.

For most of the 90's, I worked for a small software Co where about 1/3 of employees had a Phd. The only one who used it was VP of Engineering and his employees, including myself, constantly mocked him for it.
