Jim,
Watching 20/20 yesterday regarding Bill Gates life, concerns, DOJ battle, as well as his future forecast, I have the feeling that if Jobs had not left Apple 14+ years ago, he probably had changed the Apple's current situation. The key factor to any company's success is heavily counted on CEO's determination, decision, and vision. There have been through several CEOs since Jobs left in '84, however, those three components within CEO's mind seem weaking as a result of today's Apple. I can say Job's in-time stepped in, along with Ellison's significant help probably would make Apple turn around this time. Job's determination has turned Apple into profits in six months since he acted as interim CEO. I think this is his will to make that happen, and is a very important psychological break through for himself and anybody who attaches to this company. I wouldn't say there will be another significant net improvement in Q2, but I bet it will be another victory in Q2's revenue/net income. The reason is simple - because Jobs wants it to be. Sometimes, the will can drive anything beyond any beliefs, besides the fundamental of Apple is the strongest in two years.
Whether Jobs will become permanent CEO will boost stock and confidence in the short term. As long as he still steer and control Apple's future, Apple will show brighter results in the months to come and the patient and loyal investors will get what they are waiting for.
